Mykonos Airport closed for two weeks

The airport on the Greek island of Mykonos is to close for just over two weeks for planned runway repairs and terminal expansion.

Work begins on Monday (November 13) and is due to finish on November 29.

Owner Fraport Greece said the works are part of a 'masterplan' to modernise its 14 airports in the country.

When the enhancements are complete it will be able to support projected traffic growth to Mykonos for the next 20 years.

Work includes expanding the terminal by 50%, adding more check-in counters, more departure gates and security lanes as well as adding a new fire station.

The Foreign Office has updated its advice to British travellers, to say: "Mykonos International Airport will be closed from 13 to 29 November 2017 for runway repairs.

"If you plan to visit Mykonos Island during this period, contact your airline or travel operator to make alternative arrangements."
