Princess Cruises trials priority boarding

Princess Cruises is testing a fee paying airline style priority boarding programme.

Princess Advance Boarding is being piloted on Ruby Princess initially for just three Long Beach departures beginning this week, allowing cruisers to skip the line.

For a $49 per cabin fee, which includes all occupants, guests get early boarding on embarkation day and early access to book extras like shore excursions and dining reservations.

Advance Boarding guests board from the Priority check-in lane and can embark immediately after Elite, Platinum, Suite, and Club Class Mini-Suite guests.

It is strictly capacity controlled and available to reserve up to three days before cruise departure.

"Princess Advance Boarding is being offered as an option for those who want the added convenience of boarding a little earlier," the line told Cruise Critic.

"There is no impact to our loyalty members and those who already have the priority boarding benefits. These guests will still board first; the Princess Advance guests will board after them."

Depending on its success it could be rolled out fleet wide and it may amend the fee.
