Virgin Nigeria starts London flights

Start-up carrier Virgin Nigeria is to launch flights to Heathrow at the end of the month.

The airline, which is 49% owned by Virgin Atlantic, is begin with a weekly service from June 28, rising to three flights a week after a fortnight.

Virgin Nigeria will fly from Lagos with an Airbus A340 in a three class configuration - 187 economy, 28 premium economy and 40 business class seats. Bookings open tomorrow (Tuesday).

A group of short haul routes within Africa are due to be announced shortly, according to the airline's CEO Simon Harford.

He said: "We are taking this journey one careful step at a time to ensure we do not compromise our standards and our service."

The plan is to rapidly develop Virgin Nigeria into "a sizeable, quality and respected airline".
