American confidence in the safety of air travel is on the upswing, according to a new poll that is viewed as good news for the industry. About 43% of respondents to an AP-AOL travel poll said flights are very safe. As recently as this summer, the rates were in the 30s. Men are twice as likely as women to feel very confident about air travel. More than half of respondents, however, or 55% had some concerns about air travel safety. Other findings outside the security issue: Ø       Beaches and mountains are more popular than major cities and theme parks. Ø       Fewer than half of those polled, or 44%, have no plans to take a vacation over the next year. Ø       Almost half have booked a flight or vacation online. Ø       Western Europe and the Caribbean are the two most popular getaways outside the US. Report by David Wilkening
