Ryanair expands ancillary offering
Comments: 2

Hostelworld.com is to provide hostel, B&B and guesthouse deals to Ryanair's website.

The company will offer the airline's passengers over 5,500 properties throughout Europe in a five-year arrangement.

Reservations are secured on www.ryanair.com by paying a 10% deposit with the balance paid on arrival. Beds start at 5 a night.

Ryanair's Santina Doherty said: "Over the period of this deal, Ryanair will double in size, enabling Hostelworld.com to increase its market share while providing even more value accommodation for our millions of passengers."

Hostelworld.com chief executive Ray Nolan said: "By partnering with Europe's leading low fares airline we are providing the ideal accommodation solution for people looking for a budget break."

"Hostelworld offers hostel and B&B accommodation at every one of Ryanair's 136 destinations."

Hostelworld is an agent
Of course if you look at the Hostelworld site you will see they are an agent and not the principal. So, can we assume that Ryanair will therefore be the principal and deal with all the complaints?!

Is Ryanair now a tour operator?
I assume that as Ryanair is now taking money for two elements on its site that it will need to financially protect its clients' monies.

Under the Package Travel Regulations they have to do so although, unfortunately, as they are an airline they do not need an ATOL.

So, can we all, at last, admit that we have come a full circle and that tour operating and packages are the only way of making a decent margin?
