Firm creates mobile booking connection

A web-based application for making flight bookings by mobile phone has been developed by online firm Justtheflight.co.uk.

The move comes hard on the heels of British Airways making flight bookings available via the new Apple iPhone 3G (see previous TravelMole story).

Isle of Man-based Justtheflight.co.uk/mobile is a web based application optimized for mobile devices which allows people to search, book and pay for flights.

Justtheflight.co.uk, owned by the Online Regional Travel Group, obtains availability of flights and fares from Amadeus.

The mobile booking facility is worldwide allowing users to book flights to and from most global locations with the majority of airlines.

The application also offers updated travel and airline news, holiday and destination guides together with travel features written so they can be read on a mobile device.

Justtheflight.co.uk/mobile flight bookings will initially be in English and can be paid for by credit card.

There are plans to introduce a corporate version as well as multi currency and lingual options.

Company chief executive Brian Kelly said:The use of the mobile internet through Smartphone devices is exploding.

“Currently 20% of people have access to the internet via the mobile phone and this is set to grow.

“Mobile is the PC of the future; improved speed and falling costs for downloading data makes searching and booking flights a viable, quick and convenient option, breaking the tie with the office or home PC.

“Being first to market means the opportunities are endless. The company has several major joint venture deals on the go, full details will be released over the coming months.”

He added: “The Isle of Man has very clear and specific policies to develop e-commerce businesses. As a growing island business we have benefited from an effective open government that is dedicated to encouraging businesses with innovative new ideas, supported by a grant scheme for qualifying businesses.”
