Former Thomas Cook chief returns

Former Thomas Cook CEO Peter Middleton is returning to the group as an independent non-executive director.

He was CEO between 1987 and 1992, CEO of Lloyds of London between 1992 and 1995 and CEO of Salomon Brothers International between 1995 and 1998.

Since 2000 he has been chairman of a number of small listed and private companies in a range of industries.

Meanwhile, Thomas Cook has appointed a new group financial officer following Juergen Bueser stepping down due to ill health.

Paul Hollingworth takes up the role on January 1 having previously been CFO of Mondi Group.

Previously, he was group finance director of BPB and prior to that group finance director of De La Rue and Ransomes.

Bueser is described as having recovered well and is returning to the business to take up the role of group strategy director.

Thomas Cook chairman Michael Beckett said: "The appointments of Paul Hollingworth as group chief financial officer and Peter Middleton as an Independent non-executive director will further strengthen the board in the next phase of our development as a fully independent listed company.

“Both Peter and Paul bring a wealth of experience and knowledge from their respective backgrounds in international companies."

CEO Manny Fontenla-Novoa said: "I am delighted to welcome Paul to the board and very much look forward to working closely with him in the future.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank both Juergen for his valuable contribution as Group CFO and Ludger for his excellent input as acting group CFO.

"I am also delighted that Peter Middleton, with his wealth of experience, has agreed to join the board as an independent non-executive director and I look forward to working with him."
