Eight bodies found dumped in Cancun
Police have found eight bodies dumped throughout the Mexican resort hotspot of Cancun.
They are thought to be victims of cartel violence.
It is more unwanted publicity for Cancun.
State authorities urged people ‘not to share on social networks false news that only damages the image of Quintana Roo.’
Widescale searches were carried out in recent days to search for missing people after pressure from families.
Further searches are still being carried out.
Over 100,000 people have been reported missing in Mexico.
Five of the bodies were found in an abandoned building and three in a wooded area outside the resort area.
Earlier this month, four men in Cancun were killed within the main resort area in a gang dispute.
Recently, an American was shot in nearby Puerto Morelos but survived.
Four Americans were also kidnapped and two of them were killed.
This sparked updated travel advisories for Americans vacationing in Mexico.
Travelers in Cancun and other popular resort cities are advised to ‘exercise increased caution.’
