Getting around

Car rental is the best way to get around Florida, but with many domestic flight routes available, it's also worth considering flying when travelling long distances. Some counties offer free shuttles within their areas, and some even have water taxis. When travelling between theme parks, many hotels offer a free shuttle service.

Walt Disney World is opening Toy Story Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios on June 30th. Guests will feel like they've shrunk to the size of a toy as they play in Andy's backyard with their favourite Toy Story pals, including Woody and Buzz. And let's not forget about what's coming in 2019 from a galaxy far, far away…

Fast & Furious Supercharged, has now opened at Universal Studios Florida. Guests can enjoy a high-octane experience, immersed in heart-pounding action alongside their favourite characters. Universal Orlando is also opening two budget-friendly hotels at Universal's Endless Summer Resort, with rates as low as £55 a night.

Brightline, a new express inter-city passenger rail service connecting Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach has now extended its service to Miami, with plans to connect to Orlando by 2021.

Fun fact: Florida produces 40% of the world's orange juice supply.

Must see

Clearwater Beach, Pinellas County: Voted America's number one beach, this slice of seaside heaven is located in St. Pete/Clearwater. With powder soft sand and shallow crystal blue water, sit back and relax or try the variety of adrenaline-filled available water sports; it's a must for any visiting family.

The Everglades: Fancy taking a walk on the wild side? Take a spin in an airboat around this 1.5 million-acre wetland, which is a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site. See hundreds of species of animals such as alligators, crocodiles, leatherback turtles and Florida panthers.

Crystal River: The warm springs of Citrus County are an extremely popular refuge for endangered West Indian manatees. In winter months, the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge becomes home to hundreds of manatees. Known as the Manatee Capital of the World, Crystal River is only place in America that you can legally swim with them.

Southernmost point of Florida: This buoy in Key West marks the southernmost point in the Continental United States. It is only 18 feet above sea level. This popular photo op lives in Key West, an area famed for its pastel-hued conch-style houses, stunning coral reefs, and diving opportunities.

Kennedy Space Center: Visit NASA's launch complex, the astronaut hall of fame, or even have lunch with one of the 548 astronauts who've been up in space. On any given day of the year you could have lunch with an astronaut, complete with a Q&A and photo op.
