Nestled in the heart of the Great Lakes region, located within 600 miles of 60 percent of the U.S. population, Ohio is a perfect location from which visitors can discover the Midwest and a taste of authentic America. Ohio borders Lake Erie to the north and the Ohio River to the south with a wide-ranging diversity of people, places and experiences awaiting in between. Three major urban centres of Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati offer world-class arts, culture, music, cuisine and spirits. From ancient Indian mounds and an animal conservancy safari to the world's fastest roller coasters and music befitting the home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, you can find it here, in Ohio.

Getting around

Ohio has an excellent highway and road system with numerous car rental companies at airports and in cities. Within the larger cities public transportation is readily available, as are taxis.

The DogHouse Hotel, a project of Scottish brewer, BrewDog, will open the world's first crowd-funded craft beer hotel in Canal Winchester (30 minutes south east of Columbus) this fall. The 50-room hotel attached to the brewery's U.S. headquarters will boast amenities such as an IPA-filled hot tub and a mini-bar in every shower.

Ohio regained flight connections to Europe this year with direct flights into Cleveland Hopkins International Airport via Wow Air and Icelandair, and into Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport via Wow Air.

Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors is at the Cleveland Museum of Art until September 30, 2018. The exhibit spans Kusama's 65-year career and includes the U.S. debut of the artist's recent series of paintings, My Eternal Soul. Experience seven of Kusama's Infinity Mirror Rooms, including Where the Lights in My Heart Go, exclusive to Cleveland.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame traces rock music and musicians through the years and honors the best of the best. Visitors will relieve the times of their lives through videos, music, costumes and lyrics and more that dig deep into the artists' souls.

Amish Country: The largest Amish community in the U.S. resides in northeast Ohio. While the Amish dress plainly and avoid the trappings of society, visitors enjoy traveling to the area for their expertly crafted quilts, furniture, cheese and a slower pace of life to the rhythm of horse and buggies clip-clopping down the road.

Lake Erie Islands: Lake Erie provides excellent fishing, parasailing, kayaking, sailing, wineries and more. From Perry's Victory and International Peace Monument in Put-in-Bay to Glacial Grooves Park on Kelleys Island, visitors enjoy biking or touring by golf cart. Cedar Point Amusement Park (with more rollercoasters than anywhere else) is also in Sandusky.

Hocking Hills, Hocking County: An area of sandstone cliffs, waterfalls and caves in southeastern Ohio is a dramatic outdoor recreation area for hiking, biking, paddling, ziplining, cabin overnights and more. The John Glenn Astronomy Park opened in 2018 adding an opportunity to explore the night sky beyond the haze of the city.

The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, Dayton: This massive, four-hangar facility features aviation from the Wright Brothers to present-day stealth planes and drones including a space shuttle trainer and ten presidential aircraft (four of which may be toured). The B-17F Memphis Belle, a heavy bomber from WWII, went on display earlier this year.
