Spotlight: Michigan

The State of Michigan is a state blessed with the riches of unspoiled nature: the longest freshwater coastline in the United States, lakes that feel like oceans, shimmering beaches and miles and miles of cherry orchards. The landscape is matched only by dozens of eclectic towns and one iconic city with a reputation for making great cars and even greater music. Within the Great Lake State's expansive borders – which sweep northward to Canada – reside some of the nation's greatest variety. Home to more than 100 public beaches, some of the highest freshwater sand dunes in the world, stunning multi-colored sandstone cliffs, two National Lakeshores and the only national marine sanctuary in the Great Lakes, the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary in Lake Huron. Midwestern life feels anything but small here, where stunning lakeshores, deep forests and dramatic cliffs and dunes reveal themselves at every turn.
