This self-drive itinerary takes visitors across Utah, Wyoming and Idaho to see the wonderful national parks and the spectacular scenery they have to offer. Visitors can enjoy a plethora of outdoor activities on this trip.

Salt Lake City, Utah


Temple Square is Salt Lake City's main attraction, dedicated to the city's founding religion, the Mormon church. Take a trolley tour to capture great photos of the famous sites such as the four-hectare square or the arboretum at Red Butte Garden. Experience Utah's powdery snow at Wasatch National Forest, or join Olympic athletes at the high-speed bobsled ride at Utah Olympic Park. In the summer, visit Great Salt Lake where the salty water keeps you afloat.

Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming

Head north to Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. Located in the northwest, in the park you will find the Teton Range, Grand Teton peak and the valley known as Jackson Hole. Known locally as the 'mountains of the imagination', the area offers clear blue lakes and a diverse array of wildlife. Try out a range of outdoor activities in over 200 miles (322 km) of trails for hiking, biking or snowmobiling.

Yellowstone National Park, Montana/Wyoming/Idaho

Take the John D Rockefeller Memorial Highway to Yellowstone National Park, the USA's first national park. Stretching across three states, Yellowstone National Park sits atop a volcanic hot spot, famous for its hot springs and geysers. Watch for the next eruption of Old Faithful, a geyser that erupts approximately 17 times a day. Explore the park on foot or mountain bike to see abundant natural wonders and wildlife. With so much to see you'll need more than one night.

Twin Falls, Idaho

Travel into Idaho to the volcanic sites of Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve in the Snake River plain, a reminder of violent eruptions from more than 2,000 years ago. Just outside Twin Falls, Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument contains the most prehistoric horse fossils in the USA as well as many other animals, including mastodon, saber-toothed cats and bears. See some of them in the visitor center.

Salt Lake City, Utah

On your way back to Salt Lake City, visit Golden Spike National Historic Site. This monument is dedicated to the completion of the first Transcontinental Railroad. Plan a visit for the summer and on each Saturday you can relive the historic occasion during the re-enactment of the 'Driving of the Last Spike'.
