This trip covers the spectacular scenery and fascinating history of the South of the USA. On this journey travel from the vibrant city of Atlanta, Georgia, loop through North Carolina and South Carolina before finishing in the historic city of Savannah, Georgia.

Atlanta, Georgia


Start your journey in Atlanta enjoying all the day and evening activities the city has to offer. The Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola and many live music venues are particular highlights. Try the delicious local cuisine at Waffle House diner and take a stroll in the Atlanta Botanical Garden. The rich social history of the city can be discovered at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights.

Asheville, North Carolina

Travel north into the stunning countryside of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee, the most visited national park in the USA and steeped in Southern Appalachian culture. Visitors can explore the spectacular scenery on foot with a choice of hikes suitable for all levels, or on the road where waterfalls can be seen from the car. Take the Blue Ridge Parkway to Asheville, North Carolina, stopping at the Biltmore Estate along the way.

Charlotte, North Carolina

Experience a pit stop simulation at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, in Charlotte, North Carolina, then watch a race, or even drive a race car, at nearby Charlotte Motor Speedway. Alternatively support one of the many local sports teams at a football, basketball or baseball game. Thrill-seekers should visit the U.S. National Whitewater Center whilst Charlotte also offers cultural opportunities at a selection of fascinating museums.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Head south to the classic beach town of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The pretty coastal Atlantic town has lots of shops and restaurants to explore as well as activities including a water park, helicopter tours and Ripley's Aquarium. Out on the water visitors can go dolphin or alligator watching to experience the local wildlife. With so much to do it is worth staying a couple of nights.

Charleston, South Carolina

Take a short drive to Pawley's Island to see its pretty cypress wood cottages and spectacular ocean views. Then drive through Francis Marion National Forest to Charleston. The city is famous for its colourful antebellum mansions and waterfront. Take part in one of the interesting tours at Middleton Place plantation or Fort Sumter National Monument, where the American Civil War began or stroll along the wide beaches and enjoy a meal at a local restaurant.

Savannah, Georgia

There is ample choice for golfers on the journey south to Savannah at either Kiawah Island or Hilton Head Island with world class golf courses to play on. In Savannah visit Forsyth Park and see its magnificent fountain or tour the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. The City Market is a vibrant place to spend the afternoon or alternatively head out of the city to Tybee Island for a lighthouse tour.

Atlanta, Georgia

Head east today to Macon, Georgia to visit the Tubman Museum, named for Harriet Tubman, one of the USA's most famous abolitionists and a "conductor" on the Underground Railroad, which helped slaves find freedom in the pre-Civil War era. Later, explore Macon's art galleries and boutiques, and try some of the city's signature dishes. After lunch head, head to Atlanta.
