20,000 Visitors to Manly Go Pedal Power

Tuesday, 21 Jan, 2010 0

The ring of a bicycle bell has become a very familiar sound on Manly Beach in Sydney this Summer as hundreds choose to save on petrol and instead pedal around the seaside town.

Over 20kms of dedicated bicycle paths built during the past few years has now linked together Manly’s world famous beach with the beautiful Sydney Harbour National Park and North Head as well as some of Sydney’s best off- road trails around Manly Dam.

Manly Bike Tours, an innovative bicycle tour and rental business in the area, has placed 20,000 visitors on bicycles over the past two years. In doing so the business has had to expand its fleet to over 150 bicycles.

‘We have had a significant increase in the number of travellers to the area opting to see Manly by bicycle over other means’ says Manly Bike Tours co-owner Jonathon Allara.

‘I think the word is getting out that you do not need to travel hours out of Sydney to find adventure. A 30 minute ferry ride across the harbour to Manly and travellers can hop on a bicycle and ride around scenic coastal cliffs, pristine beaches and iconic Australian bush land.’

Visitors can follow one of four different self-guided tours around the area with each catering for different levels of fitness. These rides range from easy coasting along Manly Beach and out to the scenic cliffs of Sydney Harbour National Park to off-road Mountain biking at Manly Dam.

Starting at $28 a day for a bicycle rental, visitors are treated to a great day out that is adventurous, unique and economical.
