A year of celebrations in West Hollywood

Saturday, 11 Jan, 2024 0

The city of West Hollywood is all set for a year of celebration in 2024 as it marks a series of iconic anniversaries.

This includes its very own 40th birthday in November 2024.

Barry’s Gym, a longtime celeb favorite for boot camp-inspired fitness classes, it toasted its 25th anniversary with a VIP party in October with guests like Diplo. In 2024, Barry’s will be expanding its offerings with their RIDE x LIFT classes – a 50-minute class with high intensity interval training on an indoor cycling bike paired with traditional strength training on the floor.

West Hollywood turns 40

2024 will mark West Hollywood’s 40th anniversary as a city and there’s lots to celebrate. Since its incorporation in 1984, West Hollywood has seen much progress, especially on the front of LGBT rights. Highlights from the last 40 years include:

The first West Hollywood City Council established itself as the first city in the nation to have a majority gay governing body.

West Hollywood was one of the first cities in the country to pass a resolution in support of marriage equality, paving the way for same-sex marriage initiatives all over the county.

West Hollywood was the site of the world’s first permitted Pride parade in 1970, and the city was founded on the tenets of inclusivity and acceptance.

Whisky-a-Go-Go turns 60

Having first opened its doors on the Sunset Strip in 1964, Whisky-a-Go-Go celebrates their 60th anniversary in January 2024. To celebrate, the iconic venue will host an exciting roster of classic 60s acts including The Chocolate Watchband led by original singer David Aguilar; The Strawberry Alarm Clock who will be playing their 1960s classics along with select songs from their upcoming studio album; and Robby Krieger, guitarist and founding member of The Doors, who were briefly the house band at the Whisky.

Dan Tana’s Restaurant turns 60

Fondly recognised as the “little yellow house” that is a home to many, Dan Tana’s has been serving up its legendary spaghetti and meatballs and chicken parmesan for 60 years come January 2024. The restaurant has long been a favorite among A-list actors and low-profile film industry workers alike.

West Hollywood’s Design District turns 75

Known for its world-class galleries, interior design shops, and colorful murals, West Hollywood’s Design District celebrates 75 years of high-end art and design. From the collection of showrooms at the Pacific Design Center to more than 200 storefronts featuring cutting-edge home design, the Design District is a must-visit.
