Air Asia passenger numbers up by a quarter
KUALA LUMPUR – AirAsia has entered its “closed period” ahead of the release of its results for the quarter ending September 30, 2007.
The financial results are targeted to be released on November 23.
The following update released by the airline is based on the latest available operating information for AirAsia Berhad, the Malaysian listed entity. These are preliminary statistics and are subject to change.
AirAsia carried a total of 2.44 million passengers for the third quarter FY2007; this represents a 25.5 percent year-on-year increase in the number of passengers carried.
The capacity addition for the period was 34.7 percent (measured in available seat kilometres). Load factor was unchanged for the period at 79 percent.
The addition of capacity stems from the induction of three Airbus A320 into the fleet during the period.
The number of sectors flown for the period was 18,012, 15.4 percent higher than the same period last year. The increased flights are mostly injected to frequency addition across the network.
In addition, AirAsia launched four new routes during the period: Kuala Lumpur-Krabi, Kuala Lumpur-Shenzhen, Johor Bahru-Palembang and Johor Bahru-Macau.
There has been a slight drop in load factor across the network over the same period last year. The main reason for the decline is aggressive capacity addition and the introduction of new routes which underperform during the introductory stage.
