Air Pacific cuts off international flights
A report last week in The Fiji Times says that Fiji’s national carrier Air Pacific has suspended some of its international flights from Suva indefinitely, with CEO John Campbell saying that the airline would continue to suspend flights to Auckland, Sydney and Brisbane until December when they would review schedules.
Mr Campbell said the services would only be reinstated if the demand was there, adding, “At this time the suspension is until December but we will keep this under review and if we find demand returning we will reinstate the services or alternatively extend the suspension beyond December.”
“The flights from Suva to Auckland and Sydney are suspended — this was announced in late May together with the suspension of some flights between Fiji and Brisbane, Sydney and Auckland — as a consequence of depressed demand.”
Mr Campbell said although the flight patterns had changed, it had in no way affected any of its employees, adding, “No employees have been laid off or placed on reduced hours as a consequence of the changed flight pattern”.
But, he said business had been slow for the airline.
