Airlines hike air fares for football fans
A hike in airfares for fans travelling to last month’s Euro 2016 football tournament was one of the major causes of a rise in inflation.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said it was up by half a percent in June.
It attributed the rise from 0.3% in May to higher air fares, which it said leaped 10.9%, fuel and consumer spending.
Much of the rise was down to European air travel, possibly because of Euro 2016, it said.
The inflation figures are based on data collected before the EU referendum vote on June 23.
