atmosfair airline carbon friendly index unveiled
Why leave us out says Thomson
New airline carbon index unveiled to help passengers choose most carbon efficient airline.
“Whereas car drivers can since long inform themselves thoroughly about the CO2 emissions of a car before purchase, air passengers are left in the dark when it comes to choosing an airline for a flight.” Says atmosfair, the carbon-offset organization.
In the index, every airline receives in between 0 and 100 efficiency points, differentiated between short-, medium and long haul flights.
This should enable passengers to compare airlines offering a flight to the desired destination and to choose the airline which produces the least CO2 emissions.
For corporate clients, atmosfair offers specific analysises of single routes. It allows for climate consious entreprises to identify the CO2-efficiency of different airlines on their regular routes.
Getting a ‘C’ rating (no airlines get ‘A’ or ‘B’) are Air Europa, Kingfisher, Air New Zealand Link, Jet Airways India and Iberia. It goes down from there.
Thomson made a strongly worded statement immediately the guide was released at the ITB saying that they should have been included – see: www.travelmole.com/stories/1146817.php
