Ayling opens his heart after new appointment
The former British Airways chief executive Bob Ayling has explained why is returning to running a public company after three years “in the wilderness”.
The Daily Telegraph today reports that Ayling, who was also boss of London’s Millennium Dome, will next month take over as chairman of Holidaybreak, which sells short breaks, camping holidays and adventure holidays. Ayling, the Telegraph reports, has spent the last three years sailing and climbing mountains – and proclaims himself ready to run the company because he has spent many nights “under canvas” recently.
He told the newspaper: “I have stayed out of trouble for a couple of years, which is not bad going.” He added that he was delighted to have been offered the appointment at Holidaybreak: “I was very pleased to find such a good company, which has been successful over a period of seven years but remains professionally modest. That’s very refreshing.”
