Azul names new CEO
Brazilian carrier Azul has appointed John Rodgerson as new chief executive officer.
Rodgerson is one of the founding executives of the airline which established in 2008 and takes over the top job after a long stint as chief financial officer.
He oversaw the company’s IPO last year and has been instrumental in its capital raising efforts.
Rodgerson previously served at JetBlue Airways.
"John is one of the founders of Azul and is extremely well-qualified to assume the position of CEO," said David Neeleman, founder and chairman of Azul.
"He has played a key role in creating our low-cost culture and in raising the necessary resources to build this great airline. As CEO, he will be responsible for maintaining our focus on being one of the most efficient airlines in the world."
Azul is now Brazil’s largest carrier by number of cities served.
Alex Malfitani, another founding member of Azul, replaces Rodgerson as CFO.
Malfitani previously worked in Chicago for United Airlines.
"I am extremely confident that our leadership team will continue to deliver the growth and results for our stakeholders, and I will continue to be just as intimately involved in the day-to-day business and strategic decisions of Azul," Neeleman added.
