BAA launch bid for Budapest Airport
BAA has confirmed it will submit a bid to operate Budapest Airport.
In a trading statement ahead of its interim results in six weeks time, BAA said it will “participate in the tender process” for the newly redeveloped airport. The deadline for bid submissions is November 2.
Meanwhile, BAA’s seven UK airports handled 66 million passengers in the five months to the end of August, a 2.6% rise on the same period last year. Traffic growth of 3% has been forecast for the full year.
Its retail business “has performed well” and is on course to deliver growth of 1% in net retail income per passenger for the year.
The statement also revealed Terminal 5 is now 65% complete, remains on budget and is ahead of schedule. Overall, BAA is ploughing £1.4 billion into its London airports, £900 million dedicated to Terminal 5.
BAA said it was continuing work to minimise its escalating operating expenses, caused by rising utility costs and business rates.
