Bhutan to stage epic bike race
A one-day mountain bike race being held in Bhutan next year will take riders through rugged terrain and quickly changing cultural landscapes.
Starting in Bumthang, in central Bhutan, the Tour of the Dragon race on September 7 crosses four high mountain passes before concluding in the capital city of Thimphu, in western Bhutan.
It is not just the length of the race, however, that is challenging, but also the high elevation and extreme variation of altitude.
The 268km (approximately 166 mile) race spans elevations ranging from 1,200m to 3,340m (3,937ft to 10,958 ft).
