Bmibaby will not be ‘a victim’, says m-d
Bmi’s no-frills offspring has released positive passenger figures for the last six months.
Bmibaby carried just over 1.5 million passengers in the first half of 2004, up from just over 1.2 million for the same period last year.
Growth in passenger numbers outstripped capacity increases 21% to 13%. Commenting on the results, managing director Tony Davis said: “Contrary to what is being said about the low cost market and possible industry ‘victims’, bmibaby continues to deliver strong growth.
“We have achieved genuine double-digit growth without having to acquire other airlines. Our growth is entirely organic and we are selling all of the extra capacity that we are putting into the market and more.”
Bmibaby is expanding for the winter season – adding Birmingham and taking its UK bases to six from January next year.
