Boston cruise fee to begin in 2026

Cruisers visiting Boston are about to pay a little more from next year.

Massachusetts Port Authority agreed a new cruise arrival fee which will kick in from 2026.

The cruise arrival fee will start at $3 per passenger.

It will then progressively increase by another $3 each year up to $15 per passenger by 2030.

Massport says the fee will help fund a $105 million infrastructure project.

This includes installing shore power, enabling larger ships to dock at the Flynn Cruiseport and upgrading the terminal passenger areas.

Massport is also set to vote on higher charges for motorists and ride hailing pick ups at Boston’s Logan International Airport.

“This is a critical infrastructure project allowing the vessel to turn off their diesel engine to then continue to function without polluting, it is going to be run all by electricity,” said Luciana Burdi, Massport’s director for capital programs and environmental affairs, speaking of the shore power plan.

About 20 different cruise lines serve he Flynn Cruiseport offering New England and Canada cruises and sailings to Bermuda.
