Bristol agent goes under
Bristol based Swifta Travel has ceased trading.
The agent had nine other branches, operating under Swift Travel or Forest Travel, which will also close. Most of the branches were located in Gloucestershire; in Stroud, Gloucester, Cinderford, Coleford and two in Lydney. Others were in Malvern in Worcestershire, Caldicott in Hertfordshire, and Newcastle in Staffordshire.
ABTA statistics show that so far this year, 20 agents and operators have gone bust, compared to 14 by this time last year. In total 37 agents and operators ceased trading in 2001.
ABTA estimates that there are approximately 1,000 clients affected. An ABTA spokesperson said they couldn’t forsee a problem for clients, who should contact their tour operator.
Holidaymakers with bookings will be protected under ABTA’s financial protection scheme. Clients requiring assistance should call the ABTA Claims Department on 020 7307 2041.
