Canadian hotel chain unveils new green plan
Delta Hotels and Resorts is making a concerted effort to implement "the most ambitious and comprehensive sustainability program for any hotel chain in Canada," according to the 46-property chain.
“The program will revamp the manner in which Delta handles guest services, construction, operations, maintenance and its relations with suppliers and its 8,000 employees,” says a press release.
The overarching goals include a 30 percent decrease in energy consumption, carbon emissions and water consumption within five years. The program is also shooting for a 25 percent increase in waste diversion.
According to the company, the total energy saved could power 316 homes in one year and act as if 362 cars were pulled off the road. The major decrease in water consumption would fill 16 Olympic swimming pools as well.
“Delta is also offering insight into the progress of the program via an online tracking tool, which updates the company’s status three times a year, at www.deltahotels.com/greens,” the company says.
