Canary Island holidaymakers told to stay indoors
Holidaymakers in the Canary Islands are being told to stay in their hotels due to a severe weather warning.
Gale force winds and heavy rain are expected to batter the Spanish island until Friday.
The Foreign Office said some airport and port services are disrupted, adding that tourists and residents were advised to remain indoors.
Classic Collection Holidays said that they had advised clients to stay in their hotels but added that airports were still open and flights were arriving.
A spokesman said: "The severe weather is arriving later than initially expected and at the moment there are high, strong winds and choppy seas.
"We have four bookings due to arrive today and they will be given the most up to date information and advice on arrival."
Thomas Cook said that the Canaries government had placed Tenerife on high alert with regards to anticipated high winds and rain.
A spokesman added: "All flights have now arrived without disruption, and the current situation is stable with only light rain showers and a breeze. The weather warning has been downgraded for tomorrow, returning to normal by Friday."
