China’s Juneyao Air launches new Tawau, Malaysia flights
China based Juneyao Air has officially inaugurated its new Shanghai-Tawau route, opening up the East Malaysian province of Sabah.
The new route operated three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
The flight last week was welcomed in Tawau by Tourism Malaysia and Sabah Tourism Board officials.
Tawau is a key gateway to Sabah’s east coast, which gives easy access to the region’s noted eco-tourism and culture experiences, as well as the diving hub of Semporna and surrounding islands.
Tourism Malaysia director-general Mohd Amirul Rizal Abdul Rahim said: “We warmly welcome Juneyao Air’s inaugural scheduled flight. This new service strengthens connectivity between China and Malaysia through Sabah, providing greater convenience for travellers and supporting Sabah’s tourism growth.”
It comes as Visit Malysia 2026 launched at the beginning of this year
A key strategy for the VM2026 campaign is boosting direct international links and tourist visits to the states of Sabah and Sarawak.
