City of Sydney Rangers become Tourism Ambassadors
City of Sydney CEO Monica Barone has announced that City Rangers will become tourism ambassadors for Sydney under a new plan announced today.
Armed with pocket-sized foldout maps of the CBD, Darling Harbour, Kings Cross and Glebe, the City’s 120 Rangers will use their street knowledge to provide helpful advice and directions to tourists and visitors.
Ms Barone said, “Rangers are the front line of Council and for many visitors to Sydney they will be a great source of knowledge about how to get around the city.” “They have extensive knowledge of the city, streets, landmarks and places to go and this new role is about maintaining Sydney’s reputation as a must see destination for the 2.6 million international tourists who visit the Sydney metropolitan area each year, along with the 400,000 people who travel to the City on any one day to shop, learn or have fun,” Ms Barone said.
“Rangers are often asked by people for directions and advice, so the new map provides a helpful tool for both Rangers and tourists.
The map lists shopping destinations such as the QVB, Strand Arcade and The Galeries Victoria as well as points of interest such as ABC Pool, Parliament House, Skywalk, Entertainment Centre, Chinatown and museums, in addition to transport information for buses, trains, ferries light rail and the monorail.
The City is also designing a fresh new uniform for Rangers, replacing the current black/grey colour scheme in favour of shades of olive green.
“The new look is about acknowledging the changing role of Rangers with more emphasis on promoting tourism and other environmental campaigns such as littering crackdowns, environmental compliance and responsible dog ownership.
“The uniform will include an olive shirt with dark green pants and a light brown Akubra hat. They will have a reflective coat and the option of wearing shorts.
“The new uniform is expected to be ready in the New Year,” Ms Barone said.
The free maps are also available from, tourism vendor stalls in the CBD and Council offices at Town Hall, Glebe and Kings Cross.
