Club Med Borneo: bookings to open on March 26 for its property in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia
Club Med will open reservations on March 24, 2026 for its highly anticipated new resort in Malaysian Borneo, with the property scheduled to welcome its first guests in November 2026.
Located on the pristine shores of Kuala Penyu in Sabah, the new Club Med Borneo will become the company’s second resort in Malaysia, following the success of its Cherating property. The resort is also expected to be the brand’s first large-scale beach resort in Asia Pacific designed to meet BREEAM sustainability certification standards.
Club Med President and CEO Stéphane Maquaire said the new resort marks an important step in the company’s global growth strategy.
“Club Med Borneo represents a key milestone in our expansion and reflects our commitment to Southeast Asia,” he said. “We continue to create resorts that blend seamlessly with outstanding natural environments while offering premium experiences with strong environmental responsibility.”
Rainforest and sea setting
The resort sits between tropical rainforest and the South China Sea, about 90 minutes from Kota Kinabalu International Airport and roughly a four-hour drive from Brunei International Airport.
Architecture draws inspiration from the traditional Rumah Rungus longhouses of northern Borneo, with a large timber pavilion serving as the resort’s centerpiece. The structure is designed to integrate into the surrounding landscape of forests, waterfalls and coastal ecosystems.
Club Med Borneo will feature 400 guest rooms, including 39 Exclusive Collection Suites designed for guests seeking enhanced privacy and upscale amenities.
A dedicated “resort-within-a-resort” concept called the Mutiara Exclusive Collection space will include a private lounge, exclusive swimming pool and the Bayu Bar.
Water facilities range from a large main infinity pool overlooking the sea to a splash park designed for families.
Dining, families and wellness
The resort will offer several dining venues, including The Alam, the main international buffet restaurant with multiple dining areas, and The Laut, a more refined gourmet restaurant with its own bar. The Pasir will serve as the main social hub and cocktail bar.
Families are a key focus of the resort, with Club Med’s Kids Club programs available for children from four months to 17 years old. Evening entertainment will take place in the main theater, featuring signature circus-style performances and live shows.
For MICE events, the property will include four meeting rooms. A secluded spa area located within the forest will feature individual treatment chalets connected by shaded walkways.
Cultural and nature experiences
Club Med Borneo will offer activities designed to highlight Sabah’s natural environment and cultural heritage. Guests can take part in pottery workshops, cooking classes featuring regional cuisine, and traditional dance performances.
Excursions will include visits to the Mari-Mari Cultural Village, snorkeling trips around Pulau Tiga, and wildlife river safaris where travelers may spot hornbills and the distinctive Proboscis monkey.
Focus on sustainability and community
The resort spans 17 hectares of beachfront and is being developed in partnership with Golden Sands Beach Resort City Sdn Bhd.
Club Med says the project will create more than 350 direct and indirect jobs in the Kuala Penyu region, while hundreds of construction workers from nearby communities have already been employed during development.
Sustainability initiatives will include a low-density design that preserves surrounding mangroves and forests, water bottling facilities to reduce single-use plastics, energy-efficient systems and biodiversity programs developed with local conservation groups.
The resort is also expected to pursue Green Globe certification once operational.
Club Med says the new property is designed as a multi-generational destination where guests can reconnect with nature while discovering the culture and wildlife of Borneo.
Reservations for Club Med Borneo open March 24, 2026.
