Copa Airlines joins joint venture talks with United Airlines, Avianca
Copa Airlines has joined the ongoing discussions for a joint business of Avianca and United Airlines.
In a stock exchange filing by Avianca, that could turn into a ‘three-way joint business agreement.’
"At this point we can provide no assurances as to whether or when the parties will finalize the agreement," Avianca said.
Avianca and United had been talking about a JV for more than a year, but was stalled after an Avianca shareholder went to court to try to block the tie-up.
Copa CEO Pedro Heilbron said an agreement would ‘enhance our joint networks between the United States and Latin America.’
Copa and United have been long time codesharing partners and all three airlines are members of Star Alliance.
