Cruise ships get out of Sandy’s path
Tropical Storm Sandy is picking up strength south of Jamaica and cruise lines are moving out of her way, reports USA Today.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami says that the late season storm will most likely turn into a hurricane as it gets close to Jamaica on Wednesday.
Moving out of harm’s way are Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas (with a gross tonnage of 225,282 it is the world’s biggest passenger ship), the Carnival Valor, Carnival Pride and Carnival Glory.
Allure of the Seas stays at sea rather than put into Falmouth, Jamaica. Carnival Valor skips Montego Bay, Jamaica and Grand Cayman and heads on to Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico on Wednesday and Thursday.
Carnival Pride skips calls at Half Moon Cay and Freeport on Wednesday and Thursday and puts into port at Port Canaveral, Florida at the end of the week on Friday.
Carnival Glory, misses Freeport, curtails a stay in Nassau on Wednesday and adds Port Canaveral, Floriday on Friday.
