DIY holidays peril revealed?
A British tourist is reported to have lost £1,500 after her holiday booking on the internet went badly wrong.
The story, reported today by the online news provider Ananova, came to light as part of a survey by Airtours, documenting British travellers who organised their own trips online.
Ananova reports that Christina Cooke, from Birmingham, “scoured” the internet for three weeks before booking flights to the Costa del Sol.
But when she and her family arrived in Benalmadena, their hotel, the Avalon Hotel Park, was nowhere to be seen.
On checking, they discovered the hotel was actually in Germany – and had to spend another £1,000 to book more accommodation. They also lost £500 on the original booking.
Mrs Cooke is quoted as saying: “I’ve got the wrong address before but never the wrong country. I thought I was being clever by cutting out the middle man. I’d managed to confuse the addresses.”
