Downton Abbey travelmania ramps up for another season
As another US season of the smash Brit hit, Downton Abbey is upon us, VisitBritain is promoting new Downton Abbey travel experiences for 2013.
The agency reports that In 2013, Brit Movie Tours will be offering a new 3-Day Downton Abbey Experience, allowing fans to step into the shoes of Lady Mary, Mr. Bates and even the scullery maid, Daisy, in glimpses of life both above and below stairs.
Small group tours will take in all of the main locations featured in the show in and around Highclere Castle (stand in for Downtown Abbey itself) and Bampton (the stand in for Downton’s small but oh-so-cute British village). Juicy anecdotes about the cast, filming and the production are also promised. For groups with shorter back-in-time-spans, the trip is offered as a 9-hour tour.
Fans that want to sleep in the same rooms as Lady Mary (watch out for Turkish diplomats!) can book a room at The Carnarvon Arms, a grade-II former coach house nearby Highclere Castle. During filming the Carnarvon is occupied by the Downton cast, and has recently undergone restoration by British celebrity chef Marco Pierre White.
