Dubai Airport says ‘stay away’ as epic rainstorm wreaks havoc

Wednesday, 17 Apr, 2024 0

Dubai International Airport issued an urgent ‘stay away’ message to travellers as the region’s busiest air hub remained submerged in rainwater.

Heavy thunderstorms battered the UAE with large areas of deep flood waters.

As well as the international airport, highways were virtually impassable.

Flights from Dubai International Airport were grounded and arrivals were diverted.

The airport is the world’s busiest for international flights.

The airport posted on X: “We advise you NOT to come to the airport, unless absolutely necessary.”

“Flights continue to be delayed and diverted. Please check your flight status directly with your airline.”

London flights to Dubai were cancelled this morning.

Some flights have been diverted to Abu Dhabi.

The rain storm was the heaviest ever recorded in the UAE.

Many cars on highways were under water with motorists forced to leave their vehicles.

In 24 hours, Dubai had more than double the rainfall it gets in an entire year.
