Etihad in it for the long haul
Etihad Airways’ will skip a Singapore stopover on one of its Australian routes next year.
Etihad will fly Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners directly between Brisbane and the UAE capital of Abu Dhabi from June 2015.
Etihad currently uses Airbus A330-200 aircraft en route between the two cities, stopping at Singapore’s Changi airport.
Aviation analysts say the new Etihad service foreshadows moves by other operators to cut out intermediary airports on long-haul flights using the longer range of 787 and Airbus A350 aircraft on intercontinental legs.
