EU airports bring back 100ml liquid rule

Airports in Europe will again apply the strict 100ml liquid rule for carry-on bags.
The rule is being reintroduced for all airports even the few airports that have installed new CT scanners.
The 100ml limit will take effect at all airports again from 1 September.
The 100ml rule was first introduced in 2006 due to terrorism risks.
The rule was dropped in the UK for the few airports which had installed CT scanners at all security checkpoints but this was revoked to make security procedures the same across every airport.
Major UK hubs like Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester were given more time to install the new scanners.
It is not clear when this will be reversed as in Europe, as it could still take years to have all airports compliant.
ABTA’s Director of Public Affairs, said recently: “While we have this period whereby airports are still working to implement the changes, the best thing to do is travel as if nothing has changed.”
London Gatwick is targeting the first quarter of 2025 to have all security lanes complaint with the new CT scanners.
London Stansted and Manchester Airport also expect to have the work completed by early-2025
