Fairmont Hotels & Resorts debuts in Northwest England

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has opened reservations for Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere, ahead of the luxury resort’s highly anticipated debut on July 10, 2026. The new property is Fairmont’s fourth hotel in the UK, joining The Savoy, A Fairmont Hotel, Fairmont Windsor Park and Fairmont St Andrews.

Set across 63 hectares (157 acres) of Cheshire countryside overlooking The Mere Lake, the landmark estate enters a new era as a luxury destination, blending heritage with contemporary elegance. With 116 guest rooms, including 23 suites, the resort aims to establish itself as one of northwest England’s leading hospitality addresses.

Guests will be able to enjoy a variety of experiences throughout the property, including dining at Gordon Ramsay at The Mere, afternoon tea and Champagne in The Orangery, British and Indian cuisine at The Club Lounge, wellness offerings at Fairmont Spa, and golf on the championship 18-hole course.

The opening represents the latest chapter in the history of The Mere, whose origins date back to the Domesday Book of 1086. Over the centuries, the estate has evolved from a private residence and leisure destination to its latest incarnation under the Fairmont flag.

Claudia Kozma Kaplan, Chief Brand Officer of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, said: “Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere offers a countryside sanctuary designed for pause and restoration within beautifully appointed surroundings. Guests can experience tranquil wellness inspired by the lake, celebrate special moments after a round of golf, and enjoy world-class cuisine at Gordon Ramsay at The Mere, all in a quintessentially British setting.”

The transformation follows Select Group’s £35 million acquisition of the estate and an additional £90 million investment in the extensive redevelopment.

Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere represents a defining milestone for Select Group,” said Israr Liaqat, Group Chief Executive Officer of Select Group. “Our ambition from the outset was to create a destination that would set a new benchmark for luxury hospitality in northwest England, and our partnership with Fairmont has enabled us to achieve that vision.”

Social hub for celebrations

Designed with celebrations and events in mind, the property features a 1,000-square-meter Grand Ballroom capable of hosting up to 1,000 guests. Four boardrooms overlooking the grounds provide additional venues for meetings and private dining.

The resort is also positioned as a venue for weddings and multi-day cultural celebrations, offering flexible spaces and tailored service for gatherings of all sizes.

Gary Johnson, General Manager of Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere, said the property’s lake setting and expansive grounds create “a natural feeling of ease and connection.

We look forward to welcoming guests into this new chapter of the estate, whether they are here for dining, golf or wellbeing, and to seeing the hotel once again become a place for great company, meaningful occasions and a life well lived,” he added.
