First Wizz Air flights under W9 IATA code take off
Wizz Air has marked the first flights on six new routes from three UK airports and the first flights under Wizz Air UK’s own W9 IATA code.
The new services connect three UK airports with six destinations; London Luton to the Portuguese capital Lisbon and Israeli beach resort of Eilat; Doncaster Sheffield to the Hungarian capital Budapest, and Liverpool with the Romanian cities of Cluj-Napoca, Bucharest and Iași.
These low-fare routes bring the total number of new UK services launched by Wizz Air in 2018 to 19.
So far this year, Wizz Air has carried over six million passengers on its 83 UK routes to 26 countries, supporting more than 5500 local UK jobs** in the aviation, transportation, hospitality and tourism industries.
2018 also saw the launch of WIZZ’s wholly owned UK-based and UK-licensed subsidiary, Wizz Air UK.
By the end of the year, Wizz Air UK will be operating five brand new Airbus A320 and four A321 aircraft with almost 350 local direct jobs having been created at its London Luton base.
Following Wizz Air UK being granted a UK route licence in October, future-proofing the airline’s status as a UK airline, the first flights under Wizz Air UK’s own W9 IATA code started yesterday.
