Galapagos among new itineraries for American Safari
An opportunity to visit the seldom-seen Galapagos of the North, the northern islands of Mexico’s Sea of Cortés, is being offered by American Safari Cruises.
Known as the “Aquarium of the World”, the Biosphere Reserve is home to many species of whales, dolphins, sea birds, fish and plant life that is found nowhere else on the planet.
For the 2007 season, American Safari Cruises has added a series of special theme cruises that offer a combination of photography, diving and astronomy.
The “northern route” travels from Loreto taking guests to Isla Raza, a bird sanctuary with the world’s largest rookery of Heerman’s Gulls and Elegant Terns.
En route towards the Midriff Islands, the 22-guest, Safari Quest plies waters that are home to 12 species of resident and migratory whales, sea lions, dolphins and elephant seals. Guests also visit the historic town of Santa Rosalia and ride shore craft through Mulege’s palmed lined river oasis.
In addition, there are many opportunities to hike the desert, beechcombing, snorkel, kayak, sail or swim.
Departures on the northern route are scheduled for April 1 and 10, November 8 and 25, and December 4 on a 10-day, 9-night itinerary, roundtrip from Loreto.
Prices begin at $5,895 per person, double occupancy.
