Global spa trends for 2007

Friday, 10 Apr, 2007 0

US based spa travel, research and marketing company Spa Finder Inc has predicted some of the hottest trends for spas in 2007 and several of these are focus components at Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat in the Gold Coast hinterland.

President of Spa Finder, Susie Ellis is recognised worldwide as a leading authority in the spa industry and has identified the areas of detox, spa retreats, environmental commitment and ‘spa fusion’ as some key trends to watch in this fast growing industry.

A detox now includes any transition for unhealthful to healthful habits according to Ms Ellis and this means that things like stress and environmental pollution are part of what is addressed during a detox program and at Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat which opened last year, the seven day Gwinganna Detox is already one of the most popular programs.

A detox program at Gwinganna incorporates a focus on dietary aspects by eliminating alcohol and processed foods for example, but also encourages guests to step away from their current lifestyle, learn about nutrition, stress and movement and allow their body and mind to slow down and recharge.

The impact of a seven day detox program is extensive as guests leave with renewed vitality and a sense of clarity toward all aspects of their lifestyle with Gwinganna GM Sharon Kolkka saying, “The program can positively affect everything from their emotional status and general outlook on life to their eating habits and activity levels.”

Another trend that predicted by Ms Ellis relates to an increasing consumer awareness of environmental commitment with Ms Ellis saying that consumers are interested in destinations that conserve natural resources, support the local community, hire local staff, and offer organic produce and products.

Gwinganna has undertaken a significant environmental program which includes a comprehensive water conservation and recycling plan, sustainability of the property via organic gardens and an orchard, and the decision to only offer organic produce and skin care products and the Retreat also retains a full time botanist and social ecologist on staff to assist with all aspects of its plan.

These top trends for 2007 also include spa fusion, or combined modalities that produce greater results than each individual modality, which may be, for example a combination of music and massage such as the popular Sound and Stone therapy available exclusively at Gwinganna.

“With an increase of 129% in the number of spa facilities in Australia in the last five years ( Intelligent Spas report 2006), it is helpful to review the predictions of such a valuable source as Spa Finder and know that our goals and programs at Gwinganna are in line with what guests are looking for in todays busy world” said Ms Kolkka.

Gwinganna features impressive new facilities including a two level gymnasium and private training facility, a second swimming pool with stunning ocean views and the spacious Mind Body Pavilion for tai chi, yoga or meditation. A world class spa believed to the largest in the Southern Hemisphere is scheduled for completion this spring.

Guests have a choice of accommodation styles including fully restored Heritage accommodation or the superior Orchard Suites, all with their own ensuite and complimentary iPods.

Located just 30 minutes from Gold Coast airport and approximately 15 minutes from Burleigh Heads Beach, Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat has a range of fully inclusive packages from two to seven nights. A two night Healthy Weekend starts from just $700 per person. To book phone the Retreat Advisors on 1800 219 272 or visit www.gwinganna.com for more details.
