Greg Norman backs Victorian bushfire appeal
PERTH – Greg Norman and the stars of the Johnnie Walker Golf Classic will team up with past and present Australian sporting champions on next Tuesday (17 February) at The Vines Resort and Country Club here to raise money for Victoria’s bushfires appeal.
Entry is free, but a gold coin donation is requested for car parking, which will form part of a contribution by the Johnnie Walker Classic to the Australian Red Cross Victorian Bushfires Appeal.
Six teams, each comprising a leading golfer and three sporting celebrities will gather at the 10th Green of the Championship Course at The Vines at 2.45pm for a team photo followed by a 3pm tee off.
Sporting heroes swapping their bats, balls, and goggles for golf clubs include Australian cricketers Justin Langer, Brad Hogg and Ryan Campbell; Olympic swimmers Bill Kirby and Todd Pearson; footy legends Robert Dipierdomenico and Peter Matera; Wallabies Matt Burke and Ryan Cross, Melbourne-Cup winning jockey Damian Oliver and basketball great Andrew Vlahov.
Also playing will be Johnnie Walker’s Master of Blending from Scotland, Gordon Bell.
A prize presentation will immediately follow the 9-hole competition. Teams will tee off every eight minutes and spectators and media can follow their favourite players around the course.
The Johnnie Walker Classic will also donate 100 percent of sales from official event caps during the four days of the tournament to charity – 50 percent to The Smith Family (the event’s official charity), and 50 percent to the Victorian Bushfires Appeal.
A silent auction is currently being arranged for event spectators at the Johnnie Walker marquee on the 18th green to come.
These donations will supplement the $100,000 Johnnie Walker, official Scotch whisky of Cricket Australia, has donated to Cricket Australia’s Bushfires Appeal.
The Johnnie Walker Classic tees off at The Novotel Vines Resort and Country Club, Perth, from Thursday February 19 to Sunday February 22.
