Gunman shoots up Canberra Airport
A man is in police custody after firing shots inside Canberra Airport terminal.
The man was arrested and a firearm seized ACT police said
ACT Detective Acting Superintendent Dave Craft said five shots were fired randomly and not targeting anyone in particular.
“A male entered Canberra Airport in the departures area. This male removed a firearm from his possession and let off approximately five rounds,” Craft said.
It occurred close to the check-in counter
A motive is still unknown.
The airport was evacuated with part of the terminal locked down leading to a grounds top of flights.
Travellers who were on planes just before the shooting were stuck on the tarmac for hours.
It sent travellers and airport workers fleeing in panic.
Police said the man acted alone.
Canberra Airport said that some flights were cancelled but the airport reopened a few hours later.
