Holiday.com domain could fetch world record amount
A world record fee could be paid out for website address holiday.com when it goes under the hammer at London’s World Travel market which kicks off today.
According to a report in The Guardian, the domain name could fetch up to £20m ($32 million) when it is auctioned on Wednesday.
Although ‘vacation’ is the primary term used in the US, ‘holiday’ is one of the most searched words online and 90% of travel companies include it in the top-five keywords.
Farad Laaforce, managing director of organizing auction house Breathe Luxury says it is a premium domain name that could attract top-tier travel industry bidders.
"Holiday is the main key word in the travel industry. It is only in the United States that people use the term ‘vacation’. People in India and China also use the word holiday, so its potential is massive," he said.
Simon Press, senior director of World Travel Market said holiday.com would guarantee its new owners high search engine ranking.
"This will see it attract a massive amount of interest both from leading travel industry companies and entrepreneurs looking to achieve a major presence in the sector," he said.
