IKEA opens its doors to overnight guests

Taking the concept of ‘try before you buy’ to a whole new level, IKEA is inviting customers to stay overnight at one of its Sydney stores.

In a one-night-only publicity stunt, in conjunction with accommodation booking site Airbnb, Aussies are being given the chance to win a night with the Swedish furniture giant, and even get to keep their bedsheets.

IKEA will be transforming its showroom sets into ‘quirky accommodation’ options for three groups of up to four guests for one night on Sunday 31 August.

Guests can choose from three living spaces – ‘modern elegance’, ‘rustic charm’ (pictured here) and ‘inner city living’ at the retail giant’s Tempe store.

Before bedtime, guests will be treated to a communal dinner and will get tips and tricks on ways to improve their homes and learn how to make it more ‘Airbnb friendly’.

To keep kids entertained, there will be TVs, Playstations and circus games.

While the overnight is free, guests will need to pay an $12 Airbnb admin fee.
