India approves return of service for Boeing Max
India has finally green-lighted the return to service of the Boeing Max jet.
The troubled jet had been grounded since March 2019 and India has been one of the last major aviation markets to approve its restart.
Aviation regulator DGCA granted the return to service, which benefits only SpiceJet which is the only airline in the country that operated the planes.
It currently has 13 Max planes in the fleet and has an order for more which it can start receiving soon.
The airline is expected to restart Max operations next month.
"As India emerges from Covid and air traffic picks up again, the Max aircraft will play a major role in our future expansion," said SpiceJet chief Ajay Singh.
Dozens of countries have lifted the grounding of the jet with China the last major market yet to grant recertification.
It is expected to give the OK by the end of 2021.
