India reveals 13 arrests made for hoax bomb threats against airlines
Thirteen people were arrested, accused of hoax bomb threats to airlines in 2024, the government says.
There were 728 bomb threats made over several months last year, with multiple hoax calls daily during the second half of 2024.
It caused travel chaos for many airline passengers, especially those flying with IndiGo.
India’s largest airline received 216, while Air India was hit by 179 hoax bomb threats.
Fourteen bomb threats were received by foreign airlines.
Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol disclosed the arrests in a written reply to a question from a lawmaker.
“Total 13 persons have been arrested in 2024 in connection with hoax bomb threats,” he wrote.
‘In order to deal with hoax bomb threats, BCAS has issued advisories to all the civil aviation stakeholders in the country to ensure streamlined security measures and to prevent any unlawful interference with civil aviation,” the minister said.
