Italy set to welcome record 27 million tourists in summer 2025
Italy is looking to be one of the world’s top 2025 summer destinations. ENIT – the Italian National Tourist Board- is indeed projecting 27 million tourists between June and September. Of these, 18.6 million will be international travelers arriving by air. These numbers reflect a robust recovery and growing demand for Italian holidays.
According to ENIT’s latest monitoring data, foreign tourism demand has surged by 17.9%, maintaining momentum seen during the Easter season (+17.6% year-on-year). The figures position Italy as the second most popular global destination for summer travel, behind Spain but ahead of France and Turkey.
On the domestic front, Italy ranks third with 8.4 million air travelers, following Spain and Turkey, and ahead of France.
Geographically, international arrivals mostly concentrate in Northern Italy (7.7 million passengers), followed by Central Italy (5.5 million) and the South (5.4 million).
Bookings between June and September have already surpassed 10.6 million international arrivals. It represents a 4.6% increase over the same period in 2024. These visits should generate over €10 billion in revenue, not including tourist spending within the country. In the first five months of 2025 alone, international arrivals at airports topped 8.6 million (+1.5% compared to last year), with a peak of 2.3 million in April.
The top source market is the UK with 1.6 million arrivals, representing 15% of total. Second largest inbound market is the United States with 1.2 million (10.9%). While Germany is number 3 with 1 million (9.8%).
“These numbers are the clearest indicator of Italy’s tourism potential,” said Ivana Jelinic, CEO of ENIT. “From North to South, the country remains highly sought after, thanks to the richness and quality of experiences it offers. This positive trend fuels growth in local communities and strengthens tourism as a driving force of our country’s socio-economic development.”
