Landmark ASEAN-EU air agreement signed

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) inked a Comprehensive Air Transport Agreement with the European Union.

Signed during the 28th ASEAN Transport Ministers’ Meeting in Bali, the ASEAN-EU CATA is the  first of its kind bloc-to-bloc air transport agreement.

Talks on the agreement date back to 2016.

The agreement ‘will create more harmonious synergies to accelerate economic recovery, especially air connectivity between ASEAN and Europe,’ said Indonesia Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi

It is expected to boost travel options between Southeast Asia and Europe and speed up the restart of some routes.
